In a shocking case that shows the deplorable condition of government hospitals in Uttar Pradesh, a doctor was seen treating a patient under the flashlight of a mobile phone at the District Combined Hospital in Shikohabad area in Firozabad district.

A power cut and a backup failure reportedly led the doctor to give the patient, injured in a road accident, stitches under mobile flashlight.

Due to the rampant power cut in the area, the inverter backup also got discharged leading to a blackout in the government hospital in the incident that happened last week.

“There are not enough facilities in the hospital and it is completely dark inside due to the power cut. The doctor had to treat the patient using a cell phone torch,” a relative said.

Meanwhile, Dr Abhishek, who was on duty, said that he is helpless and has to treat the patients anyhow as there is no other option.

“There is no power supply in the hospital and the backup has also failed. We are treating patients under mobile torchlight as there is no other option,” Dr Abhishek said.
